Team ICO’s Fumito Ueda Speaking at GDC 09

Don’t get your hopes up for any kind of megaton game announcements, but the Game Developers Conference website confirms (via VG247) that Fumito Ueda, the head of Team ICO and the man behind ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, will be joining quite a distinguished panel that’ll cover the future of game design.

Titled “Today and Tomorrow, East and West Game Design,” Ueda will be accompanied by Grasshopper Studio’s Goichi Suda (aka Suda51), Bethesda’s Emil Pagliarulo (lead designer on Fallout 3), and 8-4Ltd executive director (and old friend of 1UP) Mark MacDonald. The panel will cover “the most important recent trends in modern game design,” and “how they see them affecting the industry both in Japan and the West” (a topic of some popularity these days).

Ueda is known to be working on a mysterious new title for the PlayStation 3 (the first game that’ll come out of Team ICO since 2005’s Shadow of the Colossus), and naturally, Ueda’s appearance at GDC will spark hope that some kind of new info on it will be revealed. Again, we caution not to get your hopes up too high (it’s unlikely any big announcements will be made at a multi-participant panel), but then again, what is life without any hope at all?
